synopsis
Infidelity is a complex issue. A more mainstream acceptance of polyamory and open relationships is emerging in the collective subconscious, causing a shift in our cultural opinion of what infidelity is. To say that sex is meaningless, to me, would be a diminishment not only of the power, but also the sacredness of the act. I hope to see the shift in the acceptance of desires and openness to other forms of relationship.
In the case of cheating, I would posit that the pain is felt more acutely in the cheater rather than the one being cheated on, because it is often not a lack of love that drives one to seek another. I was drawn to this script for several reasons. The biggest being our cultures misinterpretations about the motives and emotional fallout behind infidelity.
The structure of the script is what initially drew me in, with the double twist. Relationship drama expressed via horror has always felt relatable and appropriate in expressing the trauma of the end of a relationship. An ex-girlfriend of mine once compared the end of a relationship to a death. When you’ve been with someone for a long time there is certainly a supernatural element as well. Here we bait the audience with a breakup scenario and then pull rug out as the fight increases in intensity.
Live, Laugh Love is an exploration of both sides of infidelity and just like any relationship drama there are bound to be some twists.
